Radiology & Imaging

The department of Radiology and Imaging is a modern department equipped with latest diagnostic equipment. The department has 1.5 T MRI, 64 slice spiral CT scan, Colour Doppler Ultrasound Machines, a portable colour doppler ultrasound unit, computed radiography with 800MA Image intensifier Television unit, 200 Ma High frequency generator X-Ray machines and four portable xray units.

In addition, there is a cathlab for vascular studies and a C-Arm in operation theatres for Surgeries.

The department functions throughout the day attending to routine & emergency patients.

64 Slice Ct Scan

The department is equipped with SIEMENS somatom sensation, 64 slice cardiac CT.

The High end CT because of multislice detectors and faster rotation is capable of covering the whole body. Because of increased speed and resolution the CT produces excellent images of coronary arteries. CT Coronary angiogram is a very useful noninvasive study of coronary arteries.

In addition to this gives high resolution studies of cerebral, carotid & vertebral, pulmonary artery, aorta, upper limb, lower limb, abdominal arteries.

Software upgradation gives excellent reconstructions like Multiplanar reconstruction, MIP, VRT, Virtual bronchoscopy and virtual colonscopy.

Other studies like CT Brain, Orbit, PNS, Neck, Thorax, Abdomen, Spine, extremities, High resolution CT of lung, Temporal bone, Paranasal sinuses, CT Myelogram, joints are routinely done.

The CT scan is used for procedures like Fine needle aspiration cytology and biopsies of masses in Thorax, Abdomen, Spine and extremities. In addition CT guided aspiration and drainage tube placement for abscess is done as well.

1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

1.5T MRI is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat diseases.

MR imaging uses a powerful magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and advanced computing to produce detailed images of organs, soft tissues, bone and virtually all other internal body structures.

The computer is able to reconstruct the data into multiple slices of images. This reconstruction also can be made into three-dimensional images, allowing complete and remarkable visualization of the body area scanned from angles.

The images can then be examined on a computer monitor, printed or copied to CD.

MRI does not use ionizing (radiation x-rays)

Detailed MR images allow physicians to better evaluate parts of the body and certain diseases that may not be assessed adequately with other imaging methods such as x-ray, ultrasound or computed tomography(also called CT or CAT scanning).

Ultra Sonogram

The department is equipped with PHILIPS IU 22, SIEMENS ANTARES, GE LP5, GE Logiqe, and SIEMENS Cyprus portable colour Doppler ultrasound machines.

All regular work like USG abdomen, pelvis, Thorax, and Antenatal studies are done.

Small parts, Joints and extremities are also routinely evaluated. Ultrasound guided water colonogram is done to study the colon, without exposing the patient for radiation. Colour Doppler studies of all arteries and veins, Antenatal Doppler are routinely carried out in the department.

Interventional procedures like aspiration and drainage tube placement of abscess/ collections in abdomen and Thorax, ultrasound guided FNAC, Biopsies of masses, are performed

Radiography

The department has A Konica CR SYSTEM, siemens 800 mA I.I.TV machine, siemens 200mA with high frequency generator x-ray machine and four portable x-ray machines.

DIGITAL IMAGES from the CR system is sent to the PACS network and can be viewed in all the outpatient and ward computer monitors.

Routine x-rays are done in the department both for OP,IP and emergency patients. Other conventional diagnostics services offered are contrast studies such as:

 • Barium Swallow, Barium meal follow through, Barium Enema, small bowel enema, loopogram, percutaneous transhepatic cholngiogram for gastro intestinal tract.

 • Intravenous urogram, retrograde urethrogram, micturiting urethrogram, for genitourinary tract.

 • Hysterosalphingogram

 • Siagram, Fistlogram, Sinogram

 • Myelogram

Interventional procedures transhepatic billiary drainage and percutaneous nephrostomy are done using image intensifier and C Arm.

Cath Lab

Diagnostic angiograms, venogram and interventional procedures are performed
