Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary Surgery & Liver Transplant Surgery
This is one of the new departments in PSG Hospitals, which was established June 1, 2013. It is the first of its kind in Coimbatore. The department has two surgeons, Dr Joseph John and Dr Swaminathan, all with international experience, and specialises in the entire gamut of surgeries pertaining to diseases of the liver, pancreas and the biliary tract.

The operating suites and intensive care units (liver transplant ICU and surgical ICU) are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. Recently, a very sick patient with Extra Hepatic Portal Venous Obstruction (EHPVO), or hypertension caused by blockage in the portal vein before the blood reaches the liver and gangrene of the small bowel, was effectively diagnosed, treated and cured. Advanced specialised procedures such as left lateral segmentectomy of liver are also performed by the department.
Till date the department has undertaken more than 20 successful liver transplant surgeries and also has initiated research activities.
