Hypertension or high blood pressure occurs when the blood pressure abnormally rises to undesirable levels. It is the increased force exerted by blood against the walls of the artery. Normal blood pressure is 120/80 mm Hg. High blood pressure is defined as a level greater than 130/80 mm Hg or 140/90 mm Hg according to various guidelines. As most of the time, there are no noticeable signs of hypertension, it is also called ‘the silent killer’. Thereby, raising a significant risk to damage the brain, heart, kidneys, and blood vessels. Ignoring blood pressure symptoms can prove to be fatal and lead to a stroke, heart attack including heart failure and kidney failure, if not diagnosed early and treated appropriately.
This World Hypertension Day, take note of these warning symptoms that one should never ignore and a few key tips to ensure accurate BP measurement.
Tips for accurate BP measurement:
While there is no cure, make lifestyle changes that matter. Enhance quality of life by eating a well-balanced diet, limit salt and alcohol consumption, regular exercise to maintain a healthy weight, manage stress, quit smoking, take your medications properly, and work together with your doctor. These protocols can go a long way and reduce health risks.

When a health facility’s “quality and safety climate or culture” values hand hygiene and infection prevention and control (IPC), this results in both patients and health workers feeling protected and cared for.
To prioritize clean hands in health facilities, people at all levels need to believe in the importance of hand hygiene and IPC to save lives, by acting as key players in achieving the appropriate behaviours and attitudes towards it. In other words, health workers at all levels and people accessing health care facilities need to unite on ensuring clean hands.
This year’s theme for World Hand Hygiene Day, 5 May 2022, is focused on recognizing that we can add to a facility’s climate or culture of safety and quality through cleaning our hands but also that a strong quality and safety culture will encourage people to clean hands at the right times and with the right products.
Unite, talk and work together on hand hygiene for high quality safer care everywhere.

Call to Action:
19 April 2022
The liver is the second-largest and one of the most complex organs of the human body. Although it is an important part of the human body, there is a lack of awareness about the organ’s function as well as various liver diseases that are in some cases fatal too. Consequently, every year on April 19, World Hepatitis Day or World Liver Day is observed to raise awareness about the organ and its various ailments.
On World Liver Day 2022, here are some dos and don’ts that can help in maintaining a healthy liver:
Some dos that can improve your liver’s health-
1. Consume a diet that has a good amount of green and leafy vegetables which must include Spinach, Broccoli, Kale, etc. These vegetables trigger a natural cleansing process in the body.
2. Start eating good and healthy fats such as those found in walnuts, avocados, and olive oil.
3. Keep yourself hydrated if you want a healthy liver as water helps the liver remove waste from the body.
4. Enhance the proportion of fruits in your diet and it should include some Vitamin-C-rich fruits.
5. Exercising regularly also contributes a lot toward a healthy liver.
Some Don’ts to avoid in order to keep your liver strong-
1. Avoid eating processed foods as much as possible as they have a high glycemic index that leads to a fatty liver. These food products also increase the sugar level in the body.
2. Avoid saturated and trans fats which include fried foods.
3. One of the biggest steps toward a healthy liver is to avoid consuming alcohol. Alcohol, a dehydrating agent, makes it difficult for the organ to get rid of the toxins in the body.
4.Consuming red meat can also contribute to the fatty liver so avoid it.
5. Avoid food with high sugar content such as chocolates, candies, and soft drinks.

The slogan for 2022 is Quality Sleep, Sound Mind, Happy World. Sleep is a foundational pillar of health, and the quality of your sleep can impact not just your physical energy in the morning but your mental and emotional health, too. Join us this year in promoting quality sleep worldwide.
Who created World Sleep Day?
The annual awareness event was started by a group of dedicated healthcare providers and members of the medical community working and studying in the area of sleep medicine and research. The goal of the first World Sleep Day was to bring together sleep healthcare providers to discuss and distribute sleep information around the world. The first co-chairs of World Sleep Day were Liborio Parrino, MD, Associate Professor of Neurology at Parma University, Italy and Antonio Culebras, MD, Professor of Neurology, Upstate Medical University, and Consultant, The Sleep Center, Community General Hospital, Syracuse, New York, USA.
Why was World Sleep Day created?
Time and time again, sleep medicine professionals and researchers came up against the belief that sleep was not important enough in personal health and well-being to be a priority. That coupled with society’s 24/7 flow, the founders of this awareness event aim to celebrate the importance of healthy sleep.
